Advanced Photoshop (Selection & Masking) --
                  November 7 & 8, 2009
The heart of Photoshop is the use of selections and masks for localized
editing. There are dozens of ways to designate a portion of an image
for enhancement. The two day advance workshop will include
demonstrations on some of the more effective approaches to selections
                  and masking including:

                      selecting vs. masking
                      refining edges
blend modes & advance blending modes
                      alpha channels
                      saving selections
                      adjustment layers and masks
                      workflow

The workshop is limited to six participants with at least two instructors.
During the workshop, participants will work on one of their images
resulting in a final print. Participants should have a basic knowledge
                  of selection tools and masking.

This two day highly intensive workshop will explore in great detail the most
powerful tools available in Photoshop - masking and selections. We will carefully
balance this technical exercise with the overall course emphasis of photography
as an art form. Our mission is to help each participant realize their vision.

Photography is a process that allows us to create an image based on our vision.
If capture is the sketch then post processing is the paint. Our studio is the
digital darkroom and Photoshop our tools for transforming our images into works of
art. Better understanding of the tools gives us greater freedom to create whatever
we can imagine.

Understanding masking and selections gives us total control over our images. The
use of these critical tools allows us to perform the most intricate editing such
as controlling color and tone in a sky without affecting the rest of the image,
removing distracting objects, or modifying a busy background no matter how
difficult the selection.

This is a hands-on workshop with an instructor/participant ratio of one to three and
will culminate in a final pint. Lunches and snacks will be served during the two days.

The following is our signature approach here at CreativeLightworkStudio Workshops:

You spend time, one-on-one, with an instructor applying the course lessons to your work
We teach creative vision by showing you what can be done to your work
You will learn not only new tools, but also how to apply them successfully to improve your artwork
We deliver a final product, your print
   Every question is answered

We are looking forward to hosting you at this new workshop.

How often have we been disappointed with print results? Colors don't
match what we saw on the monitor. The medium has become very complex
with different types of printers, inks and papers along with the
confusing methods and settings. The two day workshop will provide a
very strong knowledge base of printing and help participants to
achieve predictable print results. The workshop includes:

                      color management
                      types of printers and inks
                      print settings
                      obtaining and using print profiles
                      paper choices; gloss, semi-matte, matte
                      matching paper type to images
                      into alternative print making

The workshop is limited to six participants with at least two instructors.
Participants will be using one of their images to create three prints
using three different types of paper. There will be several
                  demonstrations throughout the workshop.

Workshops location is San Mateo, California unless otherwise noted. San Mateo is located 20 minutes away from San Francisco International Airport.

                  Featuring wildlife
Photographers Daniella Theoret and Oliver Klink
The workshop will focus on learning techniques to photograph owls in the wild (Snowy, Northern hawks and Great Greys). This is a unique experience to capture owls in flight, feeding, or resting.
Our guides are expert photographers and naturalists.
There will be a maximum of 4 participants per
instructor, so each will have the opportunity to receive
individualized attention and instruction to ensure their
                  photography workshop objectives are met.

                        Workshop Agenda
Through a combination of instruction, shooting in the field and daily reviews, you will learn how to photograph these amazing owls. Our lead instructor (Daniella Theoret) has been photographing the owls for many years at the various locations we are conducting the workshop. The instruction will touch upon owl behaviors, exposure (critical when you photograph white bird on white snow), focus (tracking owls in flight), composition and much more.
Schedule: 7 days of photoshoots and reviews

Photographers Mark Tuschman and Oliver Klink
The workshop will focus on learning techniques to photograph people. We have pre-arranged locations for the photoshoot, which will give you best background, light , and a unique experience to photograph people.
On Saturday, we’ll photograph a non-profit organization. Mark’s forte is to teach how to photograph people with dignity, make the individuals feel comfortable in front of camera and much more. At the end of the workshop, your work can benefit the organization by donating your images. Great way to learn and be locally published!
On Sunday, we’ll photograph a special event (Parade) in San Francisco. The emphasis will be on individuals/groups parading, capturing special moments, anticipating actions, and much more. Mark will show us his tricks when he does street photography.
Upon signing up for the workshop, you will receive a coursebook that details the photoshoot locations and tips on people photography.
There is a maximum of 6 participants per
instructor, so each will have the opportunity to receive
individualized attention and instruction to ensure their
                  photography workshop objectives are met.

Through a combination of instruction, shooting in the field and daily reviews, you will learn how to photograph people. Our lead instructor (Mark Tuschman) has been photographing people for many years at the various locations we are conducting the workshop. The instruction will touch upon light, exposure, prepping the subject for most natural behavior, composition and much more.
